FinePix Real 3D W1 Digital Camera

PCMag.com Gives the Finepix Real 3D Two-Thumbs up! 0

Posted on September 21, 2009 by kevin

In a recent artice at PCMag.com, the writers said that their “awesome button” got smacked hard by the Finepix Real 3D W1.  For those of you who don’t speak geek, I believe that means that they like it!

They were lucky enough to have one of the cameras to do a proper hands-on review of the 3D technology in particular.  As with any first generation technology, it’s expensive (probably in the ballpark of $649 when released in North America) and has some improvements to be made.  PCMag tested the quality of the 3D images using the screen on the back of the Finepix Real 3D W1 and also by using Nvidia’s new 3D imaging software to view the images on screen.  Using the Nvidia software (currently available for $199) to view the images on a computer monitor requires special 3D glasses, but the reviewers found the 3D images to be sharp and thoroughly 3D.  When viewing on the Finepix screen, they said it made them dizzy after a couple of minutes of viewing, but the pictures still looked great.

The bottom line?  Although the camera is rather obese and probably impractical for the average picture taker, the camera is a technological wonder and would be appreciated by techies looking to get their hands on the newest technology.  Still no word on an official release date for North America, but Nvidia says it will be soon.

Finepix Real 3D Debuts in Europe in October 0

Posted on September 09, 2009 by kevin

The SFGate has told us that Fujifilm will debut the Finepix Real 3D W1 digital camera in Europe starting in October.  It will make it’s triumphant debut at the IFA electronics fair in Berlin.  Although the show is speculated to have lots of discussion about 3D technology, the Finepix Real 3D System will be the only physical 3D product on display.

It is rumoured that the price of the camera will be in the neighbourhood of $499 Euros (or $712 US), which is significantly more than the 50,000 Yen ($542 US) the Finepix fetches for in Japan.

As of today, there is still no official launch date for North America, but it is speculated that it will be in October as well.  If you really can’t wait to own a piece of history, just check out the ebay auctions on the right.

FujiFilm defends the Finepix Real 3D W1 Camera 0

Posted on August 28, 2009 by kevin

Akihabara News, from Japan, recently reviewed the Finepix Real 3D W1 digital camera and let everyone know their stance right off the bat with their title:  “The worst camera ever made: the review” (you can view that post here).  FujiFilm quickly came to bat to defend it’s newest technology by inviting the reviewers from Akihabara News to sit down with the developers at FujiFilm to discuss their concerns with the camera.

The result of the meeting was an article from FujiFilm to aleviate some of the concerns made by Akihabara (which you can view here).  The article went a long way to address the concerns, but still reminds readers that this is a brand new product, so some issues are to be expected.

I don’t think sales will be effected by these concerns at all.  People will still go out to get the latest technology just to say they have it.  If you have any comments regarding the camera please use the comment feature below to voice your conerns or praise.

Finepix Real 3D to Hit North American Markets Soon 0

Posted on August 21, 2009 by kevin

According to online sources, North American will get it’s first taste of the Finepix Real 3D W1 early in October.  The article I read said it will be released in Canada on October 1st, but I would also assume it will be available in the United States on that date or sooner.

In terms of pricing, it seems pretty much on par with prices in Japan and the UK.  In Canada the Finepix Real 3D W1 will sell for $699 CDN and the Finepix Real 3D V1 digital viewer will sell for $499 CDN.  Factor in the exchange rate from Canadian to American and you’re looking at $640 USD for the camera and $460 for the digital viewer.

Considering the above prices it would still be economical to purchase the camera from ebay.  Check out the ebay listings to the right and you will see that the prices are lower than the MSRP for the North American markets.

Stay tuned for more updates.

It is now official! The Finepix Real 3D System has been released to stores in Japan starting today. The price tag has remained unchanged from previous reports coming in at roughly $600 US.

Although an official release for the rest of the world is still reported at a month away, you can still be one of the first to own the Fujifilm Finepix Real 3D W1 camera through ebay.
